Community Schools (Somerville Public Schools)

Somerville Community Schools provides developmentally appropriate enrichment, recreation, and educational opportunities that complement the school day to students in grades Pre-K through 8. Students in the Community Schools program also benefit from a daily snack and daily academic support including homework assistance and targeted tutoring services. Afterschool services are offered in all elementary schools during the regular school year from the time of dismissal until 5:30pm. We follow the Somerville Public Schools calendar and are closed on all major holidays. We offer extended programming during school vacation weeks, as well as a 6-week full-day Summer Adventure Camp. Lunch is provided during the summer program.

Elizabeth Peabody House OST Program

Our afterschool program serves children ages 5-13 in the greater Somerville area. It is licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education & Care (EEC). At the heart of the program is an enriching and engaging curriculum that simultaneously bolsters students’ in-school coursework while expanding their educational horizons academically, artistically, and socially. Students might spend the afternoon in a group art project, in our computer lab/resource room, or on our brand new state-of-the-art playground! From homework help to science experiments, music lessons to community service projects, we make sure the education doesn't stop when school is over. Our model of experiential learning keeps our students’ minds and bodies active, promoting positive and productive youth development. During the summer, our students receive the full camp experience thanks to our partnership with Everwood Day Camp in Sharon, MA.

Mystic Learning Center, Inc

Mystic Learning Center provides school age childcare, youth development and parental involvement activities. Licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care to serve 40 children.

Parts and Crafts

Parts and Crafts is a member-supported family makerspace and community workshop based in Somerville, MA. In our programs we encourage kids to play, think, make, and learn through the exploration of the arts, science, computer programming, and engineering – a cluster of disciplines we refer to as “the creative application of technical skills.” We run school-vacation camps, a full-time school-alternative program, and afterschool and weekend classes and workshops, open-shop hours and other community and family events.

Somerville Recreation

Somerville Recreation Center offers a variety of options for summer and school vacations. See their website for the most recent guide and schedule of classes.

Somerville YMCA

The main purpose of the Somerville YMCA School Age Child Care Program is to provide a safe, comfortable and reliable child care environment that fosters emotional maturity and promotes the physical, intellectual and social well-being of the school age child. Our primary intent is to help children develop to their fullest potential. The design of the program recognizes the need for play and its importance as a means for growth. Our curriculum is one that nurtures and responds to the developing needs of each individual child. The activities provide challenge, stimulation and an opportunity for self-expression. The program runs year round and is open on snow days, half day Wednesdays, the public schools' professional development days, and during school vacation weeks. During the summer months breakfast and lunch are provided.
