Join us May 13 at 7pm on Zoom for a discussion of John McPhees' Encounters with the Archdruid, a 1971 account of environmentalist David Brower's confrontations with three of his opponents. Encounters is considered an exemplar of the New Journalism pioneered by writers such as Joan Didion and Tracy Kidder, and has been praised for McPhee's artistry in depicting Brower and his antagonists "as subtly and convincingly as they would be in a good novel" (Time) .
