Rockets: There and Back Again engineering workshop with the Museum of Science!
1) Rocket Launch
Visitors will use their engineering skills to use latex balloons of different shapes to make short-range rockets that launch along a nylon track and reach an astronomical target 8’ – 12’ above the ground.
Visitors will follow the engineering design process of Build, Test, and Improve to roofs for their rockets to travel as far as possible. If they fail the first time, we encourage them to try a new improved design and test it out again! If they are successful, we then encourage them to try one of the other possible challenges we can give them.
2) Re-entry
Visitors will use their engineering skills to design parachutes for a space capsule with an astronaut inside as they attempt to safely land their astronaut on either Earth or Mars.
Visitors will follow the engineering design process of Build, Test, and Improve to modify two key forces, weight and lift, as they attempt to slow down their space capsule as it moves through the simulated atmosphere of one of the planets. If they fail the first time, we encourage them to try a new improved design and test it out again! If they are successful, we then encourage them to try one of the many possible challenges we can give them.
This is a first come, first serve event for children ages 7 & up!
