Chef Bio:
My name is Afruza Akther, I am from Bangladesh and have been living in Somerville for 20 years with my husband and daughter. I come from a culture where every household traditionally cooks meals at home, and I value the freshness in the food I eat and serve. I want my community here to taste fresh food too through me. My husband and I love to cook and feed our family and friends, and that made me turn to feeding the community by starting my small business Bangla Adda. I started with the Nibble program in Somerville in 2019 and I served two and a half years to my community before graduating. While I was there, I decided on my catering menu, and now I often participate in events like local Farmer’s Markets, food demonstrations, and get invited as a cook by local organizations. Once, an online news blogger came and positively reviewed my food with a picture which I got to know about later. Knowing when someone enjoys my food or asks where I am located feels like the real reward to me.
