Cinema Strange: The Other Shore

Chris Hopkin is back with Surrealist Screening Program Cinema Strange! This series, the Other Shore, is focused on contact between worlds as explored within Cinema. On July 30, in Ken Russel’s psychedelic classic Altered States (1980) a professor searches within his own mind for some sort of universal religious truth, only to discover being was in front of him all along. On August 20, in the short films of Takashi Ito, space and time itself are warped to use cinema as a medium of summoning spirits, of conceptualizing a fourth dimension. In MA’s own Winterbeast (1992) sex and violence clash in a dreamy adventure through snowy Concord, full of stop motion monsters and America’s long buried ghosts. Come explore how cinema reveals worlds beyond our own, and how an open mind might just open our own world a little bit more.
