Perhaps surprisingly, the search for alien life does not have a “giggle factor” among most astronomers. Rather, it has been an area of serious and respectable study that has consumed decades and billions of dollars in research, out in the open (no conspiracy theories required!).
And astrobiology may be tantalizingly close to answering the age-old question of whether we are the only life forms in the Universe!
