One way to go after a part-time job is to keep your eyes open for the "hiring" signs posted at various locations, or get in contact directly with the hiring departments of larger organizations like gyms, hotels and stores. Somerville Cares about Prevention (SCAP)

Somerville Cares About Prevention, a community based coalition supported by the City's Health Department, works to reduce substance abuse, as well as the harms associated with such use among Somerville residents with a particular focus on youth. SCAP regularly hires youth to work on substance abuse prevention programs.

Teen Empowerment

The Center for Teen Empowerment is a youth organizing and social change program that has sites in Roxbury, Dorchester, and Somerville, MA, and in Rochester, NY. At each site, Teen Empowerment employs a group of youth, ages 14-21, and trains them as community organizers, providing them with the support, resources, and ongoing training they need to organize initiatives that involve both youth and adults in addressing community issues.

The Mystic Mural Project

If you've ever driven down Mystic Ave., you've seen the results of this fantastic summer employment program for teens aged 14-19, that combines hands-on environmental education with art. The mural project brings together an international community of youth living in Somerville. Mural participants have come from places such as El Salvador, Nigeria, Haiti, Vietnam, Brazil and the Ukrane. The youth often bring music and food from their country of origin to share while working on the mural.

The Possible Project

The Possible Project is an afterschool Youth Entrepreneurship Center in Cambridge that teaches high school students to start and run their own businesses.

The Somerville YMCA

The Somerville YMCA employs Teens aged 13-15 as part of its CIT/LIT summer program as well as older teens to work in summer camps. Contact the Y directly for more information.
