LOCAL BEATS: An inclusive community dance party!

Main content

Local Beats is an inclusive community dance party for all our neighbors, families, and friends in the greater Boston area. We invite local DJs to share great dance music from around the world, encouraging a multilingual and multicultural mix of sound and people.

Kids and teens are welcome with their parents/guardians, particularly from 4 to 6pm, when musical hosts Rik Eberhardt and Philip Tan warm up with new wave, ska, international pop, R&B, and classic hip-hop at reduced volume levels (85 decibels). Foam earplugs will also be provided for people who enjoy bass without ear fatigue.

Guest DJs lead the party from 6 to 9pm, showcasing their personal style and collections. DJ Anthony Alvarez blends Latin house, hip-hop, and reggaetón, followed by DJ Lady Ly and her selection of Afro-Caribbean soca. Philip Tan closes the night out with house, disco, and soul classics.

Local Beats aims to bring our many communities together through dance, music, and mutual respect, recharging our energy for the work ahead. Attendees are encouraged to look out for one another and help create a space where people of every age, culture, gender, ethnicity, and sexual orientation can feel safe and free to relax and dance.

Note: The venue is on the second floor and there isn't a ramp or elevator. Please contact dj@localbeats.org if you need assistance with accessibility and we will be happy to help you join the party.
